The five ways to clean your furniture

Keeping your upholstery furniture clean is not the easiest thing. If you decide to try and do it yourself, we have five ways that will help you complete this job easier and faster.

Check the tags on the furniture

The first thing that you can do before you start cleaning is to check the tags. Many times the tag will tell you what is the best way to maintain your furniture. There are four different tags, and they go from X, W, S, WS. X means that you need to call a professional or else you risk of damaging the furniture. The only thing that you can do here is to vacuum it. W means that a water based detergent can be used to clean stains on it. S means that the upholstery can be cleaned with a dry cleaning solvent. WS stands for the possibility to clean this furniture with either a water-based detergent or with a dry cleaning solvent.

Use your vacuum

The best friend of every upholstery furniture is regular vacuuming. Even if there are no spills or dirty areas, regular vacuuming will extend the life-like look on the furniture and will remove dust particles that start filling the insides of the furniture. You can also use a soft brush to collect any hair follicles from it.

Make your own water based cleaner

The easiest way to clean the upholstery furniture is to grab your kitchen detergent and fill a medium sized spray bottle with water and add a few drops of detergent. For best results add a small spoon of vinegar but only if your furniture does not have dark colors. Once you shake that bottle, the detergent will cover up the smell of vinegar and the cleaning can then start

Test the detergent on a low visibility spot – If you are not sure how the mixture will act on your upholstery, test it on a spot which can’t be seen that easily.

Make the spill soak up a bit before your rub it in – If the stain has already been there for some time, you might want to dampen the area with the detergent solution for a couple of minutes before you start rubbing the stain out.
